The Pedroni part

My mom and Grandpa's recent return to Ohio prompts me to write a bit about the quarter of Louis that is Pedroni. The other quarters of the pie are Weiss, Freeman, and McCoy. Pedro Pedroni0001 My great-grandpa, Pedro (Peter) Pedroni (third from the right) and his five brothers and one sister lived in California's central valley. Pedro had four children. His oldest son was Adolpho, my grandpa. The Pedronis were from the southern, Italian-speaking, part of Switzerland. Adolpho soon became Adolph. Grandpa tells me that his friends would call him Dolph and during his service in WWII they called him Pete. Seems none of the Allies were too keen on calling one of thier own by the same name as Adolf Hitler.
Speaking of the war, Grandpa is fond of reminding people that he shot more than 1,000 men during his service. He was a dental assistant. Ba-da-bing! Jokes like this fill my memory of Grandpa. By the way, did you know that my grandpa is a PhD. Yup, a Post Hole Digger. Wah-bam!
As boys we spent every single summer swimming in his simple concrete pool in the middle of the lima bean fields that he and his brother, Georgie, shared in central California. Grandpa had two daughters, my mom, Cheryl, and her sister, Esther.
When Mary and I were thinking of names for then-BoomBoomShooshShoosh we realized that it was important for both of us to be able to recognize our grandparents. The middle name, Adolph, has certainly raised a few eyebrows because of the obvious conotations to Hitler. However, to me, Adolph is my grandpa and I want Louis to be proud of that part of his past and his genetic make-up.
Here are a couple of great photos of Lou with Grandma Cheryl and Great-Grandpa Adolph.
