Shower
Mary's friends from college have been planning a surprise baby shower for her for the past month. They all came into town on Friday or Saturday morning. Some of them came from as far as D.C. and Florida. Yesterday, they all came over to our house to set up while Mary was in class.
The surprise worked perfectly - she came in the door and went through her usual routine of taking her coat off, and undoing her scarf and hat. She looked up at me, and then looked around the kitchen. "Did you clean up again?" We had just cleaned the kitchen that morning, but it must have looked even more put together. Then she looked over at a plate of brownies on the counter. "Did you make brownies?" Then something clicked. She looked up at me again, and then scanned the kitchen. She looked into the living room, still undoing her jacket. "What are those presents for?", she asked with a growing smile. "And whose hands are those behind the table?" "What is going on?", she asked.
Stifled giggles became full giggles turned into laughter. Slowly Mary's friends began popping their heads out from behind the door and standing up from kneeling behind the table. During the entire realization Mary stood on the small foot mat trying to bend over far enough to undo the laces on her boots.
"Oh my gosh", "What the...", "I was starting to wonder why I hadn't heard from any of my friends lately", she said with a face that was still mixed between perplexed and a look of pure happiness.
What happened after that is for Mary and her friends to know and for me to find out! I went out to dinner with some friends. But I'll let the photos they took tell part of the story.
Enjoy!
