38 Special

Mary has entered Week 38 of her pregnancy. We met with the nurse practitioner this morning and learned that Mary hasn't really progressed much past where she was at the last visit. We're both realizing that BoomBoom may take full advantage of the full 40 week lease he/she has on Mary's uterus. The NP discussed the process of inducing Mary if she goes past the 40th week. We hope the baby comes before that but we're assured that an induction is nothing to be scared about.

Speaking of scared, has anyone else noticed the recent media onslaught about autism? It seems like every time we open a magazine, turn on the tv, or listen to the radio there is another feature on the increase of cases of autism. The CDC has just started a major public awareness campaign which explains the media overload. I'm sure it's just the natural worrying instincts of parenthood setting in but all the news makes us nervous. As the NP said this morning "welcome to parenthood, you'll worry about everything possible ailment you hear about."
